Introduction

With the advance of materials technology, many new and interesting materials are emerging with many possibilities in the device applications. Our lab is established to study such interesting materials and to investigate them in various device applications to utilize their interesting and advantageous material properties. The aimed outcomes of our researches are superior performances of the devices such as energy storing, converting, and tranporting devices such as supercapacitors, solar cells, and field effect transistors.

Research Subjects (연구주제)

Graphene (그래핀)

Discovered in 2004, graphene has exiced research community since then for its unusual and superior materials properties such as superb mechanical strength, electrical conductivity, transparency, and high surface area. Several sythesis methods for graphene have been developed such as chemical vapor deposition and solution method. Our attention on graphene is mainly focused on using it as an excellent electrode material for various devices such as solar cells and supercapacitors.

Flexible Transparent Electrodes (유연투명전극)

One of the prominent area for the application of graphene is flexible transparent electrodes for futuristic organic electronics. Organic electronics is considered as the electronics of the future where electronic devices have the form of human friendly flexible nature. For example, a newpaper-sized display that can be folded and stored in a wallet. For such flexible devices, flexible transparent electrodes are one of the key needed elements. Graphene is thin, strong, and conducts electricity efficiently. Therefore, grapehen is considered as a good candidate material to be applied as a flexible transparent erectrodes. We research on the application of graphene electrodes focusing on the issues such as cheap production, and decreasing resistances of grahene electrodes.

Supercapacitors (슈퍼커패시터)

Energy storage is one of the key research themes for the development of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy where the nature of the energy sources is characteristically irregular. A kind of prominent energy storage devices recruiting much research attention are supercapacitors where graphene is considered to be useful for making superb porous electrodes. Supercapacitors can afford fast charging and discharging speed that is much faster than batteries. Therefore they are suitable for the applications where fast speed is useful such as the energy harvesting system in electric cars which stores the energies of deceleration and returns the energy back during the acceleration. Our research focus is on utilizing graphene as a high capacity porous electrodes for supercapacitors which can store the equivalent or even exceeding amount of the energy to or than the batteries.
